Weekly Wrap-Up: 6/25/17! “Pokemon GO, Call of Duty, & Knuckles”

The end of the week is here, and with it, the last bit of news has dried up and is ready for consumption!

Pokemon GO introduces new Gym Mechanics

You can read all about the changes here, but basically, Pokemon GO gyms have been completely reworked! Collect items at Pokemon Gyms, and battle the six pokemon stored at that gym in a new way to remove duplicate pokemon from taking over gyms. They’re also introducing “Motivation” which you can read about below.

At the heart of the update is a new motivation system that will significantly change how you interact with Gyms. When a Pokémon is assigned to a Gym, a motivation meter will be displayed. Pokémon assigned to defend a Gym lose motivation over time and as they are defeated in battle. As a Pokémon loses motivation, its CP will temporarily decrease, making it easier for opposing teams to defeat. To help keep the Pokémon motivated and in tip-top shape for their next battle, Trainers can treat their team’s Pokémon to some Berries, which restore their motivation. If a Pokémon loses all motivation, it will leave the Gym and return to its Trainer the next time it loses a battle, so you’ll want to keep your team’s Pokémon motivated by giving them Berries frequently!

Its been a bit since I’ve taken a hike to play Pokemon GO, but I’m honestly considering it if these changes make the game a bit more fun again.

While the tech behind it is very confusing to me, those with more know-how can find the info here. Basically, from what I’ve been able to gather is that you’ll be able to feel like you’re actually grabbing onto things and throw, drop, and pull items without the weird disconnect of holding a controller in your hand, or a weird wand-shaped controller.

The idea is amazing, and I hope to get to play with it myself. I could see this especially being amazing in games with a strong narrative, allowing you to lose yourself in the world a bit more.
